Are you curious about Maine-made textiles? Are you a fiber artist looking for insight into local fiber options?
Join Maine Fibershed to learn what a local fibershed is and how each of us can create change by understanding the fabric that weaves our community together. Pat Harpell of the Maine Fibershed will tour our State’s local farmers, mills, dyers and makers, with samples from over 50 Maine farms, from Alpaca to Yak. Learn how to differentiate between fresh carbon and fossil carbon fibers, how a Soil-to-Soil system works, the importance of local fiber to our economy, how raw wool is being used to replenish soil, and how you can make a significant difference.
Prior to returning to Maine in 2019, Pat Harpell founded the South Carolina Herbal Society in 2009, running programs to educate the general public on sustainable, Earth-focused health topics. She collaborated with the Medical University of SC to introduce the history of modern medicine’s roots and to partake in an on-campus herbal garden. She eventually introduced the first Herbal Apprenticeship program to Charleston, SC graduating herbalists who continue to work within their communities. Prior to that, Pat founded two Yoga Teacher Training Schools with a dedication to underserved populations, which she ran for 10 years. And before all of that, she founded and ran a technology marketing company for over 25 years to help startup and mainstream companies.
