Used Book Store

The Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library believe a library is the heartbeat of the community, a treasure trove of learning, gathering, connecting, supporting, and discovering. The Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library proudly supports our community’s library by operating a used book store. Since 2006, the community has raised over $500,000 for the library through the used book store, which offers books and other items for as little as 85% off their original price. Our pay-whatever-you-want books on the porch are another way we make book ownership accessible for all.

Used Bookstore Flowers

The Used Book Store is open almost year-round to the great joy of booklovers near and far. In addition to great book bargains in every topic area imaginable, VHS tapes, CD’S, DVDs & Audiobooks are also available.

The store is operated by The Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Friends is an entirely volunteer-run organization and generously supports the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library.

Volunteer

Our volunteer opportunities are fun, flexible, and in shifts of as little as 2 1/2 hours. Volunteers serve as clerks, shelvers and sorters. We also staff the used book tables at Booktoberfest. You can volunteer once a year, once a week or several days a week. Have summer visitors here and there, or a trip in the fall? We can schedule around that!

To find out more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Jane Homer at (207) 633-5203 or email: thefriends@bbhlibrary.org Thank your support!

Donations

Book Donations are welcome May—November during open hours.

Please drop off book donations inside the used book store during open hours. We do not accept donations outside of store hours. Thank you for your understanding!

The Friends of the Library request that donations include only:

  • Gently used books
  • DVDs
  • CDs

We ask that all items be in sellable condition; before donating an item ask yourself, “Would I buy this item?”

We do NOT accept:

  • Moldy, musty, torn, and soiled items
  • Items with writing or highlighting in them
  • Travel guides more than five years old
  • Magazines
  • Textbooks
  • Atlases, dictionaries, and encyclopedias
  • Estate clear-outs, as they overwhelm our space and volunteer staff

Gather
