Summer Reading Program 2023!

June 27 – August 18, 2023

This Year’s Theme is:

Friendship, Kindness, Unity

Our Summer Reading Program keeps children engaged and reading all summer long!  Children receive a Summer Reading Passport full of reading activities and challenges.  They read their way to individual prizes and raffle tickets for a chance to win grand prizes like bikes, Sherman Gift Cards, backpacks, stuffed animals, mini golf tickets, a Pokemon Prize Bundle, Pizza & Movie Night at the Library, Librarian for the Day & more!

Special Events:

Windjammers for Wee Mateys and Summer Reading Kickoff

Tuesday, June 27 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join us on the library lawn for a whale of a time! Sign up for the Summer Reading Program, play some games on the lawn, visit our Tattoo Parlor, learn how to talk like a pirate and choose your pirate name. Get your Summer Reading Passport and get started logging your reading hours, completing reading challenges, and writing book reviews to earn prizes and raffle tickets toward even bigger prizes!

Service Dogs 101!

Tuesday, August 1 from 1-3 p.m.

Join Mission Working Dogs for an introduction of what it takes to train a service dog. We’ll be joined by staff and real service dogs from the organization!

Special Animal Friends Story Time with special guests from Saffron & Honey Homestead!

Family Read & Watch Movie Night!

Read Newberry Award Winning book, Holes, by Louis Sachar.  Join us for a discussion of the book over dinner at 6:30 p.m. Watch the movie at 7:30 p.m.

Lindsay & Her Puppet Pals!

Friday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m.

A special program in place of Story Time, Lindsay will bring her larger-than-life Puppet Pals to the library lawn.  Funny, fast-paced, and interactive, this variety show will delight the young and old alike!

Ocean Day!

Tuesday, August 15 from 1-3 p.m.

Join us for an afternoon of ocean exploration and fun! Meet and interact with tide pool animals from the Maine State Aquarium’s Mobile Touch Tank. Investigate kelp samples from the Gulf of Maine with a real scientist from Bigelow Laboratory. Join Jen for Ocean Books and songs! Plus, we will have bubbles and chalk all afternoon!

End of Summer Reading Program Celebration!

Friday, August 18 from 1-3 p.m.

Join us on the library lawn for an ice cream treat, games on the lawn, and our end of the Summer Reading Program Raffle!

Outdoor Story Time begins Friday, June 30!

Join Jen on the lawn all summer long for a morning of stories and songs!  In keeping with our summer theme, we will be reading books about friendship, working & playing together, community helpers, kindness, animal friends, and being a good global citizen.

We look forward to seeing you!

Bubbles & Chalk – Fridays at 11:30 a.m. beginning June 30!

Join us on the library lawn for fun with the bubble machine and decorate the walkways with chalk!

Get crafty this summer and stop in the Children’s Room for a different craft each week!
Inspired by our summer theme of kindness, friendship, and unity we will craft all together now! Craft supplies, samples, and instructions will be available in the Children’s Room while supplies last.

Farmer’s Market Story Time – Thursdays at ll a.m. from June 29 – August 17!

Join our volunteer reader, Crystal, at the Farmer’s Market for an hour of stories on the lawn! Look for her in the shady spot behind the Gazebo.
