Moves for a Mission Bolsters Children’s Department

Chess took center stage on the Library Lawn on Thursday, August 21 as Raza Patel, an 11-year-old chess player, led area chess enthusiasts through strategy and game play.

Patel is the founder of Moves for a Mission, 501(c)(3) chess charity aimed at helping children in need. This special chess fundraiser encouraged donations from competitors for a chance to sit in on a special chess workshop with Patel and included an open chess social where Patel competed simultaneously against six other players.

In addition to donations from participants, Patel solicited sponsorships from downtown Boothbay Harbor businesses and raised a staggering $1,205 for BHML’s children’s department.

Thank you to Raza and the Moves for a Mission team for helping to make library resources and services available to children of the Boothbay Region!
