Boothbay Sea and Science Center
Whose Trash Is This?: The Boothbay Region concerns itself with the integrity of its natural resources and depends upon future generations to understand and appreciate the impact that they have on its viability and sustainability.
One of the goals at the Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) is to encourage the responsible use and long-term stewardship of the ocean and its resources by cultivating a greater understanding and appreciation of the coastal environment and maritime history. BSSC invites one and all to join them in “up-cycling” cups, lids, bowls, etc. into unique and fun works of art!
Boothbay Region Land Trust
Get information about the Boothbay Region preserves and learn about our flora and fauna. See and touch pelts, bones, seeds, cones, rocks, and other natural objects from our region.
Boothbay Region Garden Club
Stop by the Garden Club booth and learn about planting for pollinators: butterflies, bees, and more!
Lincoln County Gleaners
Come and learn about how the gleaners are recovering produce from local farms in Lincoln County to help feed hungry people, and find out how you can become a volunteer. Sample a snack made from gleaned food.
Citizen Scientist: Maine Bird Atlas
Visit Meg Donaldson, our very own Circulation Coordinator (who doubles as a amateur birder), to view a display of common birds seen in our back yards, coasts and meadows. Get information on how to contribute to the four year update of the Maine Bird Atlas, utilizing the ezBird website. Learn how to contact our local Audubon chapter, where to find field guides in the library, or do a fun and simple craft that feeds the birds!
Boothbay Region Water District
Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake are the public water supplies for the Boothbay Region. What happens in their watersheds – the area of land that drains to the lakes – affects the quality of our drinking water. The Water District will have a watershed model to explore and show the effects of stormwater pollution and runoff on water quality, as well as information on ways to protect all water bodies.
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
We’re celebrating butterflies all season long at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens with our new Butterfly House opening in June. At Earth Day Fest, come and learn about these fascinating insects and their night-flying cousins. We’ll explore the differences between butterflies and moths, learn about their unique adaptations and their role as pollinators in our gardens. We’ll also look at their scales up close. Yes, that’s right, butterflies have scales! Participants will plant milkweed to take home for the butterflies in their garden.
